SMW is definitely a very intriguing fragrance to discuss for me, because I hate it, but I also very much love it. I own a 120ml bottle which I blind bought back in 2014. When I sprayed it on, I can smell some “inky water”, which is actually quite pleasant, but it also had a very pungent metallic note that was horrible. To this day the bottle is around 75% full. I tried so hard to like it and justify my purchase, but it just didn’t work. Fast forward to a few of months ago in 2020, when I seriously started getting back into the fragrance game again, I was surprised by all the positivity surrounding SMW, and decided to grab a 2018 sample. I was absolutely shocked when I found out that it did not have any trace of a metallic note in it. It was actually extremely pleasant and refreshing. It had the same “inky water” scent, but it was also accompanied by a delightful cloud of mild sweetness from the green tea and sandalwood. Simply beautiful! I’m now starting to question the authenticity of my 2014 bottle, but for the $200 I paid, I sure hope it was genuine. Overall, I despise the 2014 version (if mine was genuine) and absolutely adore the 2018 version. Both batches are far from being high performers, but they perform just right for the type of scent SMW is, which I believe to be light and invigorating. 2014 batch (if genuine): 3.5/10 2018 batch: 8/10
